*Position Title: Community Outreach Coordinator *
*Reports to: Direct Services Manager *
*Job Classification: Full time, Non-exempt, Temporary*
*Summary*
The Community Outreach Coordinator increases awareness of and accessibility to SLO Food Bank’s nutrition assistance programs and the CalFresh program through one-on-one Spanish and English client assistance, active participation at community events, and by working with internal and external partners to ensure SLO Food Bank and its regional stakeholders meet the needs of food-insecure families and individuals in SLO County.
A successful Community Outreach Coordinator is an extroverted, people-person who is passionate about serving our neighbors in need.
The position is supervised by the Direct Services Manager and is grant-funded through June 2025.
*Principle Duties & Responsibilities* *Program Support* * Coordinate with internal and external partners to share information about nutrition assistance programs and resources, with a focus on increasing awareness and accessibility for non-English speaking and immigrant community members.
* Provide assistance as needed at sites in the field, including at SLO Food Bank program sites, CalFresh Outreach events, community events, and at agency partner pantry and meal sites.
* Connect walk-in Spanish-speaking visitors and callers at the SLO Food Bank main office with food and with information about food distributions and other nutrition assistance resources.
* Professionally represent the SLO Food Bank with clients, volunteers, and community partners at outreach events, distribution sites, and in the office with high-quality customer service.
* Work with program staff to ensure efficient use of SLO Food Bank resources.
* Adhere to program requirements and best practices.
* Coordinate with program and warehouse staff to organize and streamline internal systems of communication and logistics.
* Provide backup support in the event of program staff absences or peak workload demands.
* Work with program staff and external partners to develop or expand new CalFresh communication campaigns and outreach sites.
* Assist program staff with monitoring and evaluation activities, including site reviews and surveys, to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and to assess program impact and progress.
* Facilitate training opportunities with volunteers and staff regarding information on federal program protocols, compliance, and customer service.
*Administrative Support* * Handle administrative tasks and communication associated with tracking data for grants, surveys, and program evaluation.
* Attend meetings with community groups aligned with the Food Bank’s mission to promote SLO Food Bank and CalFresh resources, share information, and foster collaborations that benefit Food Bank participants.
* Assist with the preparation of reports, outreach materials, program materials, and presentations.
* Collect, organize, and file completed paperwork from program sites.
* Assist with the implementation of communications campaigns for services beneficial to SLO Food Bank participants and potential participants.
*Qualifications* The ideal applicant will have the following qualifications: * Passion for SLO Food Bank Mission.
* Strong desire to compassionately serve struggling members of our community.
* Demonstrated proficiency at teamwork and collaboration.
* Proficient bilingual Spanish speaking and writing skills are required.
* Background in program coordination and project management.
* Experience working with volunteers of all ages from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
* Ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail; ability to handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks, and produce accurate work.
* Ability to work both in a team setting and to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and to solve problems independently.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience in Canva is also valuable.
* Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion.
* Bachelor's or associate degree, bachelor’s preferred.
* Strong cultural competence: ability to build positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including donors, volunteers for faith-based, grassroots organizations and residents seeking emergency food assistance.

*Work Conditions and Physical Demands* Work conditions and physical demands may include: * The ability to stand for extended periods of time; the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer); to lift, carry, and load up to 25 pounds.
* Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and crouch repeatedly throughout the day.
* Standing, walking and kneeling required.
* Must be capable of spending extended periods of time entering data into a database, with the potential for frequent interruptions.
* Variable work environment: work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions.
Indoor facilities kept at cold temperature, so warm clothing is required.
Noise level varies from quiet office environment to very noisy warehouse.
Exhaust and dust may be present in the warehouse receiving area.
