*Position Summary:*
Creek Lands Conservation (CLC) seeks a temporary full-time educator for our Central Coast Youth Environmental Stewardship program.
The successful candidate will facilitate daily skill-building workshops covering topics related to conservation and climate science, traditional ecological knowledge, health and wellness, leadership skills, career technical education, and team building activities.
Educators and participants will visit various locations throughout the Central Coast to engage in hands-on climate and environmental science and outdoor adventures like hiking and kayaking.
*The Program: *
The Central Coast Youth Environmental Stewardship Program (CC YES) is a 5-day summer day camp.
For 3 weeks in June (10-28), a group of 10 middle school students from underserved communities on the central coast will attend camp Monday through Friday.
CC YES is an adventure-based day camp that visits various locations throughout San Luis Obispo County.
Each day includes outdoor adventures such as hiking or kayaking, conservation and climate science concepts, hands-on activities, nature journaling, leadership and team building skills, Career Technical Education, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and learning how to be a steward of our natural resources.
*Duties: *
* Use the Central Coast Youth Environmental Stewardship curriculum to lead a full day (8 hours) of camp Monday-Friday for ten middle school students.
* Lead outdoor adventures (hiking and kayaking) for participants.
* Communicate effectively with participants, CLC staff, partner organization’s staff, and CLC science education manager.
* Collaborate and communicate with the other CC YES educator.
* Use evaluation tools and communicate with the science education manager to continually improve the curriculum.
*Minimum Required Skills/Experience: *
* Knowledge of and/or interest in environmental and climate science.
* Interest in making connections with participants, supporting participants in growing their leadership skills, and inspiring them to become stewards of the environment.
* Experience in the education field and/or facilitation of youth education programs.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to make confident decisions.
* Ability to multi-task.
* Independent and self-motivated.
* Comfortable working as a team member.
* Ability to carry 40 lbs.
and walk on uneven terrain.
* Ability to walk up to 3 miles on uneven terrain and trails.
* Comfortable in an ocean kayak.
* Access to reliable transportation, hold a valid driver’s license, and ability to pass a background check.
