The City is honoring service credit towards vacation accrual for completed public sector years of service.
JOB SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, and coordinates recreation programs, activities, and special events.
This classification requires knowledge of recreation principles and methods as well as leadership, organization, and planning skills.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: Positions in this classification coordinate and oversee the daily operations of a program section.
Incumbents assist with the program budget and coordinate the hiring and employee training for temporary staff and volunteers.
This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Supervisor classification in that the latter is responsible for the overall supervision of the program.
This classification is distinguished from the Youth Services Coordinator and Aquatics Coordinator classifications in that the latter two coordinate and oversee specialized youth services and aquatics programs.
In the Parks and Recreation Department, Recreation Coordinators may be assigned to Community Services or Golf.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Manager, within a framework of standard policies and procedures.
Employees in this classification serve in a lead capacity to schedule, assign, and review the work of regular staff, supplemental staff, and volunteers; hire and terminate supplemental staff; and train regular staff, supplemental staff, and volunteers.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in recreation or a related field;andTwo years progressively responsible experience in recreational programming;orAn equivalent combination of education and experience.
POSSESSION AND MAINTENANCE OF: A valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
Current First Aid and CPR certifications completed within 6 months of employment.
Complete Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training within one month of employment.
