DEFINITION Under general supervision of the Student Success Centers Associate Director and in collaboration with the Director of Student Equity and Success Centers, assists to provide support and perform complex clerical and technical tasks to support all aspects of the Student Success Centers.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Student Success Center Technician is distinguished from other classes in the clerical series by the requirement that incumbents perform duties related to operations of the Student Success Center that require direct student worker contact, training and facilitating.
The position requires superior knowledge of hiring processes and procedures, policies of the Student Success Center and tutor scheduling.
Incumbent must have the ability to work independently and to maintain confidentiality; may train and oversee the work of student and temporary assistants.
Incumbents in this position support student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by supporting students to utilize the Student Success Center services and information that will assist them to be successful.

html Essential Functions & Qualifications ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide assistance and support to the Student Success Centers Associate Director and Director of Student Equity and Success Centers; Responsible for opening Student Success Center procedures: unlock tutoring resources, turning on computers, and ensuring supplies and materials are available to tutors; Greet incoming students and staff; assisting with questions and directing traffic; Assist new students coming into the Center with start-up procedures for using tutorial services; Communicate with students regarding Center services, policies, and procedures; Assist with procedures for handling tutors calling in sick, late or changing schedules; Manage daily front desk tasks: answer phones, transferring calls and taking messages for the center; Oversee Center resources including computer, textbook, and teaching materials; Assist with the recruitment, hiring and processing of new tutors; Responsible for tracking and maintaining records for the hiring and scheduling of tutors; Responsible for communicating and notifying all staff of important deadlines: payroll, sign-in sheets, and staff meetings; Assist in orientation/start-up of new tutors; creating name badges and orientation materials; Provide administrative support for drop-in tutoring, embedded tutoring, and supplemental instruction; Responsible for initial set up of the tutorial calendar with the hours/coverage of the tutors and subject areas available for drop-in tutoring; Monitor and edit online tutorial schedule/calendar (posted on the cuesta website) to reflect changes in available tutoring and absences of tutors; Assist with organizing and note taking for staff meetings; Assist in communicating with faculty and staff regarding tutors and center programs; and Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS Education: Required Equivalent to high school degree.
Preferred Associate's Degree, including or supplemented by secretarial science, office management, and public relations courses; Bi-lingual in English and Spanish (written and oral).
Experience: Required Three years of increasingly responsible clerical experience; Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Experience working at a community college and/or tutorial center Knowledge of: Organization and function of an educational institution; Data system and data entry techniques: Receptionist and telephone techniques; Written business communications; Records keeping practices and procedures; Office methods and practices including filing systems; Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software; Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and District policies and procedures.
Ability to: Compose correspondence independently; Organize information, workload, and establish priorities to complete assigned work with a minimum of supervision and within established time deadlines; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Physical ability to: Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors; Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email; Sit or stand for extended periods of time; Lift and/or carry 25 pounds; and Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
License and Certificates (current within the last year) : Required Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.
