San Luis Obispo County Public Libraries is looking for dedicated and compassionate individuals to join TLC: The Literacy Connection to help learners develop and improve their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English.
As a volunteer ESL tutor, you will be trained to work with non-native English-speaking adults and play a crucial role in empowering learners to develop their English language abilities necessary for everyday life.
Teaching experience welcome but not necessary; only a desire to help and the ability to commit to this opportunity are required.
Must be 18 or older to apply.
The Ideal Candidate Responsibilities: Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions to improve learner’s reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English.
Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment to help learners build confidence in their language skills.
Regularly assess learners’ progress and provide feedback to help them track their achievements.
Qualifications: Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and inspire adult learners in their ESL journey.
Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the unique challenges faced by adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
Reliability and commitment to volunteering.
Willingness to undergo a background check and any necessary training provided by TLC.
