Juniper (or Junie) has been in training for six months, during which she has been exposed to a variety of fundamental elements needed to make a great horse!
Junie has been ponied for MILES! In the dry river wash, up and down hills, and through water.
She is compliant and very brave; and at times had to serve as the “leader” when my riding horse wasn’t too sure about crossing a ditch.
This little mare will tie for long periods without fuss; is great for the farrier; trailers without issue; lunges like a dream; and loves people.
She is NOT flighty or reactive and is very quiet on the ground.
Exposed to dogs, gunfire, ATV’s, airplanes, and busy road traffic near the facility.
However, she has a strong work ethic and when asked to do a job she does is with 100% of her try.
She has some spice in her!
She has carried the surcingle with bitting rig, the jump saddle, and my big ranch saddle with back cinch and crupper; both on the lunge and while ponied.
She accepts the bit gently without a fight.
Juniper has been backed a few times in the round pen at the walk with a helper on the ground.
No bucking or bolting, but seemed unsure of what was being asked of her.
In this trainer’s opinion she could use another four to six months to grow (physically and mentally) before continuing with under saddle work.
THIS MARE IS PETITE and needs a light rider with experience with young / green horses.
She will only be rehomed to someone who is a professional or who can verify they are working with a competent trainer to continue Juniper’s training.
Versatile and at this point could go in just about any direction.
She will make a fantastic trail / pleasure mount.
No exposure to cattle yet, but with the right human partner she could be a real hand of a ranch horse! Has the movement to be a low-level hunter.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER:
This mare is WHITE! She loves to be dirty and has been slow to accept baths — though she loves being groomed.
If having a pristinely clean horse is important to you, prepare to be disappointed.
She is VERY green! We aren’t sure of Juniper’s exact birthday and assume she’s newly turned 3 years old.
While she has exceded my expectations for having a great mind, she is still young.
She has lots more growing to do before she can carry a rider walk / trot / canter under saddle.
She will not do well with someone who is heavy handed, rushes their training sessions, or intends to use her in a high-performance context like speed events or constantly being on the show circuit.
She is a MARE-ISH mare! Squeals and shoves her rear-end towards other horses when in season.
On more than one occasion she willingly allowed geldings to mount her.
If you “don’t like mares,” she isn’t for you.
Juniper is available for adoption through Ruby’s Purpose Animal Rescue and all stipulations for adoption will apply.
