Up for sale is my reasonably rare 1996 Yamaha WR250z.
I believe this model of bike was only sold between 1992-1997 with the later years be the best iteration.
Look up for more information on the internet as this bike is not very well known and it is an amazing bike for someone interested in trail riding.
It easily keeps up with modern bikes given the great mechanical shape the bike is in.
I know the graphics kit says "YZ" but that is because the radiator shrouds have been swapped out for some later model plastics to fit the aftermarket tank.
Read below for more info on this.
It is an enduro version of the popular YZ250 motocross bike which means it has an 18" rear wheel, heavier flywheel for better low speed performance, a wide-ratio 5 speed transmission, bigger gas tank, different exhaust expansion chamber for low end torque, a different rear swingarm with a kickstand, a lighting coil, and probably some other minor details I am forgetting.
The engine is the same as the potent YZ250 of that generation which means this bike is real fast.
Peak horsepower is around 49.

The biggest gripe most people had with these 90's WR250 bikes are the ergonomics of the stock gas tank and seat.
It makes it difficult to get your weight in the right spot when riding.
This issue has been addressed by replacing the stock seat and tank with a later year YZ setup.
This modernizes the cosmetics of the bike some by:
- Later YZ style seat
- Later YZ style aftermarket gas tank
- Later YZ style radiator shrouds to fit on said gas tank
- Polisport headlight (not currently hooked up to lighting stator)
- Rear fender light/mud guard also not hooked up, mainly just modernizes the look of the bike some.
Other notable items:
- New Keihn airstriker carb
- Front & rear tires with tubes have 2 rides on them
- Aftermarket aluminum radiators
- Aftermarket silicon radiator hoses
- New front brake caliper and rebuilt master cylinder
- Aftermarket bars and levers
- Expansion chamber guard
- FMF Turbinecore 2 Silencer
- Different style kickstarter which makes the bike kicking over easier
- Bar risers
The bike was completely torn down 3 years ago and all the frame/wheel related bearings and bushings were replaced.
The top end was done at the same time with a fresh piston and rings.
I still have the old piston as proof.
The front forks were professionally rebuilt 6 months ago with all new racetech components.
It is setup for a 180 lb rider.
This is a clean solid bike given its age with a lot of life left.
It needs nothing but a new rider.
I have a ton of spare parts as shown and there are a variety of other parts than have been replaced that would make this ad too long.
I also have an original Yamaha factory service manual from 1995.
$2700 firm.
You will not find a better two-stroke trail bike for the money.
Current green sticker and pink slip in my name in hand.
