Job Summary:
Reporting to the Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the Quality Management System and will lead AS9100 Rev D certification maintenance, operations efforts and audits.
The ideal candidate must be willing to undertake a variety of tasks to support the evolution of the QMS, as the company grows its manufacturing capabilities.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Participate in the review of customer contracts and engineering specifications to ensure the inclusion of adequate quality and reliability requirements;
Correspond with customer representatives to confirm a thorough understanding of their needs and expectations;
Responsible for driving corrective action, preventative action and continuous improvement activities throughout the organization;
Play a key role in determining the effectiveness and relevance of the QMS, primarily using internal audit resources
Work with Sales, Marketing, Production, Suppliers, Engineering and Program Management to promote the IPD (integrated product development) process and facilitate transition of project work into producible product;
Work to reduce defects in various processes through data analysis and team problem solving;
Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Project Management teams to develop tools, fixtures and assembly and test procedures to support high quality manufacturing of project deliverables and products;
Assist in developing systems methodology to streamline product development in an effort to incorporate “robust” design tools to eliminate mistakes, design for cost, FMEA, qualification testing, design quality, reliability into the products produced; codify design process and craft a smooth transition to serial production;
Work with Purchasing and Engineering to qualify and maintain approved suppliers; interface on engineering and quality assurance matters relative to the procurement cycle;
Work with Purchasing, Manufacturing and [Project Management teams to make intelligent make/buy decisions that mitigate risks and ensure the quality of components and services;
Provide guidance and assistance in developing workmanship standards, test procedures and quality assurance strategies;
Coordinate deliverable activities with customers, Program Managers, Engineering and Manufacturing Leads to ensure deliverable items are correctly packaged, documented and ready for customer review / buy-off;
Track performance metrics and use the data to drive improvements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field, preferred;
Education and/or training in lean manufacturing, SPC, rapid prototyping, design manufacturing, design for cost, robust design, a plus;
3-5 years of relevant experience in a similar role;
Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills (pareto and trend analysis);
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/specifications;
Working knowledge of measuring equipment and tools (e.
g.
, multi-meter, oscilloscope, etc.
);
Experience with IPC-A-610C, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and commercial electronics workmanship standards;
Comprehensive knowledge of quality standards and methods (AS9100, ISO, SPC, CPI, and TQM);
Proficient experience with MS Office and industry-related software applications;
Astute oral and written communication, time management, attention to detail, multi-tasking and exceptional customer service skills;
Knowledge of contract manufacturing and other related supply chain practices, a plus;
Ability to work effectively along and within a team environment.
