Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist)

We invite you to join our professional team! The Department of State Hospitals-Atascadero is a secure public sector hospital providing inpatient forensic services for mentally ill adult males who are court committed throughout the State of California.
The Permanent/Full Time *Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) *will be directed by the Accounting Administrator I, Supervisor in the Accounting Department at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH).
The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to: • Review requests to issue Revolving Fund checks and ensure the request is consistent with rules set forth by the State Administration Manual and Hospital Policies.
• Prepare monthly State Controller’s Office reconciliation; prepare other reconciliations such as the monthly Bank Reconciliation, monthly Revolving Fund reconciliation.
Post all journal entries.
• Prepare Transaction Requests to State Controller, correct any errors or abnormal items.
• Utilize Accounting Software to run Quality Control Queries for Month End Closing to validate transactions are complete as well as correct.
• Maintain & Create Query Reports and assist employees with the Month End Close.
• Back up Accounting desks as needed.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*: *EITHER I:* One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a professional accounting class equivalent in level to Accounting Officer (Specialist) or Accounting Officer (Supervisor) *Or II Experience*: Three years of increasingly responsible professional accounting or auditing experience in a governmental or private setting.
For at least one year, this responsibility must have included the reporting and analyses of accounts, records, funds and financial operations of the entity.
[Experience in the California state service applied toward this requirement must include at least one year performing the duties of a class at a level of responsibility not less than that of Accounting Officer (Specialist) or Accounting Officer (Supervisor).
] *AND Education:* Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting.
(Registration as a Senior Student in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of successful completion of the curriculum and the prescribed courses before they may be considered eligible for appointment.
